GP Motor Works workshop history
Our story

Our story since 1996.

From BMW experience to an independent Randburg workshop built on trusted service.

Independent roots. Trusted experience.

GP Motor Works was built around a simple idea: skilled workmanship, clear advice and personal service from an owner-managed workshop.

The story began before GP Motor Works existed. Founder Gilles Bedier started his automotive career with BMW in 1991, developing the technical grounding that would later shape the business. Outside normal working hours he began servicing vehicles for family and friends, and demand grew through recommendation.

1996 — GP Motor Works opens its doors

In 1996 Gilles left BMW and established GP Motor Works in Craighall Park with one employee. The workshop grew steadily as customers returned for servicing, diagnostics and repairs.

2001 — Blairgowrie

After outgrowing the original premises, the business moved to Conrad Drive in Blairgowrie in 2001. The operation expanded and serviced BMW as well as other vehicles, reflecting the broader workshop capability that remains part of GP Motor Works today.

2006–2011 — Building a permanent home in Randburg

GP Motor Works moved to Randburg in 2006. A year later the business purchased land with the intention of creating its own purpose-built facility. Construction at West Avenue, Ferndale began in 2010, and in 2011 the workshop moved into the premises that remain its home today.

Specialists — without being limited to one badge

BMW and MINI remain a core speciality. The workshop also services and repairs other vehicle makes, including routine maintenance, mechanical and electrical repairs, air conditioning, engine and gearbox repairs, panel beating and body restoration.

A consultative approach

Modern vehicles can turn one symptom into several possible causes. The GP Motor Works approach is to inspect, test and explain the findings before approved work proceeds. That matters whether the vehicle needs a scheduled service, a difficult electrical diagnosis, an engine repair or body work after damage.

Today, the goal remains the same: understand the vehicle, communicate clearly and complete the work with care.

Recognised workshop credentials

GP Motor Works is an RMI / MIWA-accredited workshop, listed under membership number 1006681. Independent operation is backed by experienced technicians, a long-standing Randburg presence and a clear process for inspecting, explaining and approving repair work.
