BMW 320i E90 Camshaft Seized Due to Lack of Oil Pressure
This BMW 320i was not running at all and was brought to GP Motor Works.
Our computer diagnostic investigation picked up a lack of oil pressure. Physical inspection revealed the timing chain had snapped and the camshaft had seized in the cylinder head. The engine also had a significant amount of oil sludge and contamination. This is the reason why the camshaft journals were badly damaged.
The cylinder head was replaced with a second hand unit which was was reconditioned. A new timing chain kit and oil pump chain kit were fitted. We notified the client that the oil pump was not in a good condition and we recommended it be replaced. The client opted not to replace it due to budget constraints. Even though we were able to clean out the oil pump we were unable to provide a guarantee on the whole job.
New filters as well as new BMW oil was used to complete the work.
