BMW 520i Turbo Reconditioning & Bumper Repairs
This client brought their BMW 520i in for three issues to be sorted out:
- There was no power and the vehicle was running poorly
- There was an oil leak
- Both the front and back bumpers were damaged and needed panelbeating
We traced the ‘no power’ issue to the turbo which wasn’t providing any boost to the engine when accelerating. This indicated a number of issues with the car’s turbo and/or wastegate operation.
What happens if turbo wastegate is damaged?
When the wastegate is not functioning or is damaged to some extent, it can cause low turbo boost pressure which results in a lack of acceleration.
We diagnosed the lack of boost on this BMW 520i was caused by the wastegates and shafts which were badly worn down. We replaced the turbo oil feed pipes, gaskets, oil filter and o-rings. We also checked the catalytic converter. The oil leak was coming from the sump and the gasket was replaced.
At the same time, the front and rear bumpers damage and scratches were repaired and then spray painted, buffed and polished.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you suspect your turbo is not operating as it should.
