BMW Z4 Car Overheating Due To Blown Head Gasket

This BMW Z4 was brought to GP Motor Works because the engine was continually overheating.

We completed the computer diagnostics tests and traced the fault to the cylinder head gasket which had blown. This required the head to be reconditioned.

New timing chain and guides were fitted. The cylinder head was re-installed using a new gasket. The car’s oil filter and air filter were both replaced and the sump was filled with new BMW engine oil.

The vehicle was thoroughly tested and found to be all in order.

Common Issues To Watch Out For Which May Indicate a Blown Head Gasket

There are some common signs which may indicate your engine is beginning to overheat:

  • The temperature gauge shoots up to maximum after running the engine for a few minutes
  • You may suddenly notice a cloud of fumes or white smoke coming out of the exhaust
  • Engine coolant leaking onto the ground under the engine
  • Air bubbling up in the radiator reservoir
  • Oil on the dipstick looks milky.

The first step to prevent a blown cylinder gasket is to always ensure your water reservoir is checked and filled if required.

If you suspect your vehicle has an overheating problem get hold of us immediately.
