BMW 1Series With Oil and Water Leaks Needing Repair
Our client started noticing their BMW 118i F20 was needing more oil than usual and also, the water reservoir needed to be filled up every day. They contacted GP Motor Works to find out where the oil and water was leaking from.
It should be noted that this is a very common issue with the BMW 1 Series.
We started with a visual inspection to locate the obvious oil leaks. The procedure involves always dealing with leaks which are higher up in the engine. In this case we found the tappet cover gasket (valve cover gasket) and the vacuum pump seals were brittle and hard (caused by age and continuous heating/cooling). The sump cover gasket was also damaged. New seals and gaskets were fitted. The engine was then washed and dried and the engine was finally inspected.
Once the oil leaks were successfully repaired, we started investigating were the water was leaking from. A water pressure test indicated the water was leaking from behind the head. The water blank off cover was damaged and needed to be replaced. This was followed by a further pressure test to ensure there were no further leaks.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us for any oil or water leaks coming from your engine.
