BMW 530d Tie Rods & Rack Ends Seized & Oil Leak Repaired
This client brought their BMW 530d F10 into GP Motor Works because they experienced a severe shudder on the steering wheel whenever braking. They also wanted us to carry out a routine service and to attend to a bad oil leak.
We found it was impossible to set the wheel alignment because the tie rods and rack ends were seized on both sides. We tested the front discs and discovered they were not running true (o.11mm out). In layman’s terms the discs had a wobble. The oil was leaking from the sump, oil level sensor and the oil filter housing gasket.
The tie rods and rack ends were removed and replaced with new units. New front discs were also installed. This was followed by wheel alignment. The cross member was removed and the leaking sump and oil filter housing gaskets were replaced and a new oil level sensor was installed. A new oil filter was fitted and fresh BMW oil was used to fill the sump.
The general service was completed and the car was handed back to a very happy customer.
Call us asap if you experience steering shudder or your car seems to veer off course. It may mean there is a simple solution but sometimes the cause is more sinister and dangerous.
Happy motoring!
