BMW 435i Required Engine Overhaul
Our client brought in their BMW 435i when the engine light on the dashboard came on (drivetrain light).
Our initial diagnostic test revealed there were vanos problems. We then checked the oil and oil filter which both had a lot of metal filings. The sump was then stripped out and the big end bearing was found to be damaged.
BMW N55 Engine Reconditioned
The N55 engine was removed and sent away to engineering for a complete rebuild. Once the engine was returned, it was re-installed. Important to note the aluminium bolts in the block were replaced with new ones. New timing chain, guides, oil pump and crankshaft were installed. New BMW oil, oil filter and air filter were also fitted.
Our Recommendation for N54 and N55 Motors
Our experience indicates the N54 and N55 motors are susceptible to this type of bearing failure amongst others. We recommend a bearing service every 80-100,000 km’s to avoid engine damage.
This includes changing out the oil pump and timing chain.
The good news is our client has brought his BMW 435i in for further work including a service and steering rack bush replacement!
