BMW M325i Damage To Camshaft Box And Cylinder Head
This BMW M320i was brought to GP Motor Works to find the reason why it lacked power.
The initial computer diagnostic investigation traced the fault to the intake vanos as well as the exhaust vanos (variable valve timing system). While inspecting the vanos we noticed severe wear and tear damage on the cylinder head and the camshaft box. The reason for this was the vanos compression washers had cut grooves into the head and camshaft box.
This damage meant we needed to get the head reconditioned and to replace the camshaft box (2nd hand due to cost constraints).
BMW M325i Engine Damage Repaired
We replaced both the intake and exhaust vanos units, timing chains and guides, camshaft box, compression washers and vanos filters. Even though the cylinder head was reconditioned it was still losing pressure to the vanos units and needed to be replaced.
We then completed the work by filling up with fresh BMW oil, new oil filter, air filter and new spark plugs. The vehicle was thoroughly tested before handing it over to a grateful client.
Most of these issues are caused by poor oil maintenance and/or using inferior grade oils.
If you do nothing else CHANGE YOUR OIL REGULARLY!
