Mini Cooper S Damage To Valve Stem Seals & Timing Chain
Our client was alarmed because their Mini Cooper S began spewing out exhaust smoke accompanied by a loud engine noise. They quickly brought their vehicle in to our workshop at GP Motor Works.
We conducted diagnostics tests to determine all the faults with the vehicle.
Mini Cooper S Engine Repairs
Our technician, Jacob, removed the cylinder head and it became evident the timing chain guide was broken and the chain itself was stretched.
The valves seats were re-faced and the valve stem seals were replaced.
A new timing chain kit was installed and the cylinder head was refitted with a new head gasket set. The head and vanos bolts were replaced as well. Once the engine was completely re-assembled, new oil was added to the engine as well as antifreeze liquid to the coolant system.
The car was started and left to idle. Once the engine was hot the technician applied hard acceleration to ensure the excessive smoking had completely stopped.
In the recent months, we have seen several Mini Coopers with both damaged timing chains and chain guides which is concerning.
