BMW 320i With Rear Main Oil Seal & Sump Seal Leaks
A very concerned client brought their BMW 320i to GP Motor Works with two serious oil leaks which needed to be located and repaired.
Oil leaks which appear to be coming from deep in the engine are harder to locate purely because a technician has to remove parts of the engine to get at the problem. This is exactly what we did, the first leak seemed to be coming from the gearbox. Once the gearbox was removed, the oil leak was located to be from the rear main oil seal. A new seal was fitted and the gearbox was replaced.
The second oil leak was in the vicinity of the oil sump. We dropped the front suspension to conduct a thorough inspection. The sump gasket was perished and was replaced.
We added a new oil and oil filter and the vehicle was taken for a test drive.
Finally, we checked to ensure the oil leak problems were solved.
