BMW 320d Initial Water Leak Then Diff & Gearbox Services
This BMW 320d F30 was brought to GP Motor Works to find the source of a water leak. After conducting routine checks we advised the client to also service both the diff and the gearbox.
We began by pressure testing the coolant system. We then traced the leak to a cracked water flange which was replaced. The coolant system was again pressure tested and no new leaks were detected. Fresh BMW Coolant was added. This is important as a high quality coolant and anti-freeze plays a significant role in protecting the engine. It prevents corrosion, lubricates the water pump and thermostat, keeps water temperature from erratic fluctuation and lastly, prevents freezing.
Differential Service
Gearbox Service
We began the gearbox service by removing the sump cover. Interestingly the design of the cover has the sump oil filter built directly into it. The old oil was flushed out of the gearbox (It is not possible to remove every bit of the oil). This was replaced by BMW specified gearbox synthetic oil. This ensures smooth gear changes and extends the life of the gearbox.
Once again – Early Preventative Maintenance will end up saving you from costly repairs as well as extending the life of your engine and other systems!
