BMW X5 M50d Onboard Tyre Pressure Monitor Failure
One of our clients was alerted by a warning message which stated the Tyre Pressure Monitor (RDC) had picked up a failure on their BMW X5 M50d tyres.
The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (RDC) is an electronic system designed to continually assess the air pressure in each tyre. It pushes out an alert if there is a sudden variation in pressure to immediately alert the driver. This immediate alert is particularly relevant with run flat tyres.
Each sensor has a lithium-ion battery which has a limited life span and will require a new sensor to be installed.
There are several other reasons why a warning message may be displayed:
- Faulty RDC module
- Built-in antenna on the sensor is faulty
- Interruption of the signal from the sensor to the central control unit
- The control unit may be damaged
Valve Sensor Pricing
The price of a set of valve sensors from BMW is around R20,000
Our price is approximately R10,000 supplied and fitted.
However, please get us to do a thorough check of the system BEFORE rushing out and getting new valves sensors installed. We have the ideal Tyre Sensor Measuring Tool which enables us to check the frequency, pressure, temperature and the battery in each sensor.
