Mini Cooper Engine Not Running Smoothly Diagnosis and Repair
This Mini Cooper was brought in to GP Motor Works for diagnosis and repair because the engine was not running smoothly at all. The owner said “it felt like the engine was misfiring”.
The first thing we did was to run engine diagnostics. We suspected there was an incorrect signal being sent to the engine control unit. We attached a scope to the wiring system and it showed an incorrect pattern for the fuel pressure regulator which was faulty.
We replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the engine immediately started running smoothly.
Typically faulty fuel pressure regulators are often the reason why a car has misfires. You may notice a sharp reduction in your car’s power and a lag in acceleration. The fuel efficiency may also be affected. However, these types of problems can also be caused by other root causes.
This is why it is vital to have a proper diagnostic evaluation to find the correct solution.
